Since you're double crocheting in the fourth chain from the hook, on the next row you're suppose to double crochet three times in the first chain you skipped. I haven't had a chance to try it out, but it is a pretty pattern. I hope this helps you out!
That part I understand ok, but when it comes to doing the next row, is where I get confused. The instructions leave out something and I do not understand about the turning, and when I follow them as best I can it does not look right and I can not get into the third row.
I think I figured it out! After you make your first shell block, where she says to chain another six, you're suppose to turn your work and then chain six. Every time you reach the end of the row, you turn it, chain six, double crochet into the fourth chain, do the next two double crochet, and slip stitch into the chain space of the shell block. Try this out and see if it works for you. Mine resembles the picture now. Let me know if I'm making any sense!

Does anyone know where to get the very small gauge elastic colored thread that can be knitted into the ribbing of socks and sweaters to give it more elasticity?
